Packing Tape Art

Work made from transparent packing tape: images built up in layers that only come alive in light.

How transparent packing tape works with light

Packing tape is layered rather than mixed. Each additional layer darkens the surface slightly, which builds tonal range without any paint. Because the material stays translucent, the image changes with the light behind it — on glass, windows and back-lit panels that is the whole point.

  • Shop windows and glazed surfaces
  • Back-lit panels and light boxes
  • Portraits and figurative motifs
  • Temporary indoor installations

The opaque counterpart is duct tape art. Technical questions are covered in the tape art FAQ, and client projects appear under commissioned art.
